Zoe Marshall

Born in Edinburgh in 1989, Zoe began the cello at the age of 8. She attended the junior department of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she held a scholarship and in her final year was principal cello in the chamber orchestra. She then became a pupil at St. Mary’s Music School where she lead all the orchestras and ensembles. Before coming to Academy, Zoe was a member of several orchestras including the Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

In 2006, she gained an entrance scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where she is now in her third undergraduate year studying with David Strange. She has been involved in numerous orchestral projects and masterclasses during her time there, the most recent of which being an intensive week of chamber music coaching and performing with the renowned German violist Hartmut Rohde. Zoe plays on her own Colin Irving cello.

In recent months Zoe has won the S and M Eyres scholarship and the Franz Reinenstein prize.
