Born in 1989, Sophie began her musical life on the violin. After learning with her father for many years, at the age of 13 she gained a music scholarship to Rugby School where she learnt with Roger Coull.
Inspired by her uncle's love of the instrument, Sophie was always interested in playing the Viola and in 2005 after picking it up quickly, was asked to play in her school's production of 'Into The Woods'. Soon after, she successfully auditioned for the National Youth Orchestra and spent two years with them working with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Sir Colin Davis and Mark Elder and particularly enjoyed performing in the BBC Proms.
In 2007 Sophie took up a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music to study with Paul Silverthorne, where she is now a third year undergraduate student.
